Dear Readers,
We're going to be honest. Keeping this association going during the height of the pandemic was hard. Really hard. We thrive on community, and our goal is to be a satellite network of pace-based communities of practice all over the province. We also love collaborating, so not being able to meet in-person was pretty harsh on our morale. Now that we're allowed to meet in-person again, we have dug deep to recruit a new team of incredible teachers who all care deeply about the BCECTA vision. We're energized about supporting pre-service teachers, TTOCs and new-ish teachers across British Columbia. Do you know someone who would be a great addition to our board? Maybe you have an idea for an event or initiative, or you have the capacity to join as a mentor! Let us know by emailing bcecta [at] bctf.ca or by contacting us through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. We have lots of exciting plans coming up... a Teacher Comedy Night, Pizza and Pedagogy events, Teacher Taco Tuesday socials, Virtual Conferences, and we're launching a BC Teacher-Author School Visits program. We have ambitious goals to lobby for system change for new teacher and TTOC wellbeing, raise the status of New Teachers and TTOCs in the profession, and to become a central go-to for finding relevant and up-to-date professional development opportunities. Please explore our website, follow us on social media, and connect to let us know how you can help (or how we can help you!). -Nicole, BCECTA President Surrey Teacher, FRIMM Social Studies 8-10
